The advanced double glazing is a great selling point because it offers exceptional security levels and withstands tough weather conditions. When installing a bifold door, you first need to consider planning permission because even though it is permitted development, you might still need it. Then, you will need to look at how the door is going to work in your home. It is essential that all the tools are ready to use and within reach because you are going to need them to hand. It is equally important to consider whether the structure can support the glazing. One way to find out is by using a spirit level to ensure that the vertical and horizontal levels align. Next, you should prepare the sill for assembly because this will help the doors connect for a smooth opening. Some sills are already assembled; however, apply a bead of silicon to the top part, and then push the two parts together, and then drill three fixing holes in the underside of the seal at around 100mm, 250mm, and 400mm from each other.
The frame comes with gaskets which will help bolster your doors’ security. Using the gaskets and woodscrews will fix your frame together and then apply silicone sealant to the head assembly, either side of the tenon at the mill end of each jamb assembly, and each end of the stops of each jamb assembly. Then fix the jamb assembly to the head assembly, slot them into the available channel in the sill and screw them together. It is important to check the frames in case they seem wonky, so they will need to be retightened or readjusted. Then secure the frames to the underside of the frames in the pilot hole positions. You will need to guide the positions carefully, making sure that they are in the right place.
Then, remove the frame head, which will enable the drilling of any masonry above the intel.
Place 5mm of packing between the head and top opening and below the sill until it is tight. But check it isn’t too tight, because the door will not be able to function properly. When they are secure, you can drill 8mm holes 70m on either side of the frame through the prepared holes in the jambs. Place the fixing bolts inside the jambs, ensuring they are not tight or distorted.
Now, you will need to fix your sill and head. To do this, look for a decent fixing point and drill the masonry plug and then fix the ties using these plugs. Use a spirit level to see if the jambs are vertical, and if they are, fit the head onto the top of the door.
The head will need to be fixed in separate parts. First, tighten the fixing screw a little, then at a central point, tighten the screw until the head and lintel are nearly touching. Once this is done, you will need to tighten the screws lightly from the jamb inwards, creating different patterns, resulting in a slight upwards curve to the head. Then, finish tightening the screws, and the hardest part is done.
Next, you will need to attach the hinges, pivots, and multi point locking systems to the door. This will give your home extra security and ward off intruders. Make sure the doors are vertical, and the pivots are fitted to the pre drilled pivot holes. Then your bifold door is good to go.
If your doors are not aligned properly, adjusting them is a simple change. If they are uneven, then use an Allen key or a small wench to screw them back into place.
